After reading some interesting proposals through history I thought I'd share one that I thought took a lot of courage, King Edward the VIII:
King Edward VIII was in love with the American divorcee Wallis Simpson, but according to English Law, the Church, and the political climate at the time he was not allowed to marry her. So he actually abdicated the throne to marry her, the proposal itself was a quiet proposal over dinner but the story behind it is amazing (I think).
